Athenaeus of Naucratis in his Deipnosophists represents the untypical image of Socrates. He casts doubt on Socrates’ military valour, criticizes him for the inconsistency, debauchery and intemperance in alcohol, refutes the facts from his biography retold by his disciples and followers.
