The Netherworld presented by Plato is ambivalent towards the world of the living beings. It can serve both as the place of trial for the dead and as the soul’s residence before it is born (as depicted in Er’s story in the tenth book of «The Republic»). The aim of our report is to analyze the author’s intentions implicit in each reference to the myth about Hades and the role it plays being inserted in a particular context.
